IPL 7 first century by Lendl Simmons

Lendl Simmons stole the thunder with a scintillating 61-ball 100, singlehandedly powering Mumbai Indians to a morale-boosting seven-wicket win over table toppers Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League in Mohali
Simmons smashed 14 fours and two sixes during his unbeaten knock as the visitors chased down the target of 157 with an over to spare and keep their hopes alive in the tournament.
Simmons' was the first three-figure score in this edition of the T20 league. This was Mumbai Indians' fifth win in 11 matches while Kings XI Punjab had already assured themselves a place in the playoffs.

Simmons was on the ball right away, hitting medium pacer Sandeep Sharma for three fours in the innings' first over at the PCA Stadium. Beuran Hendricks was given a similar treatment, the bowler being picked for three more boundaries as the 29-year-old Simmons raced to 33 off just 16 balls.

The onslaught continued and none of the Kings XI Punjab bowlers had any clue about where to bowl to the marauding West Indian. Shivam Sharma and Rishi Dhawan were smashed for 19 and 17 runs respectively in their first two overs. Dhawan, though, made a comeback to finish with figures of 1/30 in four overs, respectable in the face of such onslaught. Akshar Patel had 1/27 in his four.

With Simmons in such a mood, his opening partner Mike Hussey was not needed to do anything and when he got out the experienced Australian had just six runs to his name in a partnership of 68 that came in seven overs. Mumbai Indians lost Ambati Rayudu after that but Simmons was unperturbed as he continued to torment the Kings XI bowlers.

Simmons had added 43 runs with Rayudu before the Indian got out. When Sandeep Sharma was brought back, he was hit for a massive six, which was Simmons' second, the first coming against Shivam. With Mumbai Indians needing less than 50 runs with plenty of overs to go, Rohit Sharma joined hands with Simmons to take his side to victory before the skipper was dismissed by Hendricks. Kieron Pollard hit a six, after Simmons reached his century with a flick, to finish off the game.
Earlier, Kings XI Punjab recovered from a middle-order collapse to post a challenging 156 for eight.

Skipper George Bailey top-scored with 39 while Manan Vohra and Shaun Marsh contributed 36 and 30 respectively at the PCA stadium. Sent into bat, Kings XI Punjab were strongly placed at 90 for two after the first 10 overs, but lost their way after that before Bailey anchored the innings with some calculative batting. For Mumbai Indians, Jasprit Bumrah (2/31) and Shreyas Gopal (2/32) were the most successful bowlers.

Kings XI Punjab were off with a bang as Virender Sehwag launched the innings with a couple of sixes -- the first one soaring over extra cover before the batsman dispatched a slower one straight over the bowler's head.

But the opener's innings was cut short when he was run out in an unfortunate dismissal by Praveen Kumar who, after the ball hit no-striker Manan Vohra's foot, run back to knock the bails off. In came Shaun Marsh and, in the season's first appearance, raced to 30 off just 17 balls with the help of two sixes and as many fours.

Vohra too went along nicely to keep the run rate healthy. But the 64-run partnership between Vohra and Marsh was ended as the Aussie went for heave towards the on side only to be bowled by Krishmar Santokie.

That triggered a collapse as Kings XI Punjab lost a flurry of wickets, including the big one of Glenn Maxwell to Shreyas Gopal, to be stuttering at 116 for six in the 17th over. Bailey then added 38 runs in just 3.2 overs with Rishi Dhawan, who hit a couple of fours in his nine-ball 14, to help KXIP's cause.

Mumbai Indians won by 25 runs

Mumbai Indians defeated Rajasthan Royals by 25 runs at the Sardar Patel stadium in Ahmedabad. Rohit Sharma pumps his fist in joy and the Mumbai dug-out is absolutely elated! The players shake hands and it's a well deserved victory for Mumbai! The run chase didn't begin that well for Rajasthan as they lost Unmukt and Watson very early.
Karun Nair played some lovely shots to keep them in the hunt but his partners were just not willing spend quality time out there. They lost 5 wickets for 33 runs at one stage before Nair eventually ran out of patience. Pollard's one-handed stunner was the feature of Mumbai's fielding tonight.
Harbhajan bowled exceptionally well to make life difficlut for the batsmen. Hodge hit some lusty blows at the death to thrill the capacity crowd but the pressure got the better of him in the penultimate over. In the end, Mumbai were come comfortably by 25 runs to stay alive in the tournament. They now have to sit and pray for the other results to go their way for them to sneak into the last four.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders live score

Sunrisers Hyderabad take on Kolkata Knight Riders as KKR and SRH are both at crucial points in the points table with a chance of still making it to the playoffs with a bit of luck but that will also mean that they need to win their matches from here on.
KKR are at 10 points and SRH is at 8 points with the latter needing the win more desperately than KKR to reach 10 points and a shot at the Playoffs.
Gautam Gambhir has been able to lead by example ever since IPL 2014 came back home and has led Kolkata Knight Riders to a better winning streak as compared to their UAE stint. KKR’s prime concern will be facing the formidable SRH bowling line-up with the likes of Dale Steyn and Bhuwaneshwar Kumar who are performing consistently in the tournament.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have given Darren Sammy an opportunity to be the captain while Shikhar Dhawan opens the batting with Aaron Finch for SRH.

RCB won by 5 wickets

Disciplined bowling by Royal Challengers Bangalore set up their win in Ranchi on Sunday, which was accomplished with a little hiccup in the end by a margin of five wickets - with Chris Gayle and AB De Villiers making the most notable contributions with the bat.
Varun Aaron led the RCB attack with figures of 2 for 29 to restrict CSK to 138 for 4, but the Bangalore chase didn't get off to a confident start, scoring at less than 5 runs an over in the first 10.
However, Gayle (46 off 50 balls) and De Villiers (28 off 14) upped the ante at the right moment to enable RCB to win with just one ball to spare after losing wickets in a chunk during the dying stage of the game.
Earlier, Suresh Raina overcame early jitters to hit an unbeaten half-century and guide Chennai to a modest total.
During his 48-ball 62-run knock, Raina struck a six and six boundaries to help his team to a decent total after they struggled to force the pace for a major part of the innings at the JSCA International Stadium Complex here.
Bangalore bowlers were very economical with Varun Aaron being the most impressive with figures of two for 29 from three overs.
Opting to bat, Chennai did not have an ideal start as they lost both their openers within the first five overs, with Aaron accounting for Dwayne Smith (9) and Brendon McCullum (19).
Raina walked into the middle when Chennai were in the spot of bother after losing two wickets in the same over with just 29 runs on the board in 4.4 overs.
Along with David Hussey, Raina rebuilt the Chennai innings, putting on 75 runs together for the third wicket.
Raina was more dominating of the two batsmen as he hit all the loose balls that came his way, even as Hussey struggled to get going. Finally it was Muttiah Muralitharan who saw Hussey off for a 29-ball 25.
Even Chennai skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni failed to take off despite hitting an early boundary off Yuzvendra Chahal.
In the final overs, Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with a nine-ball 10, putting on an unbroken 23 runs for the fifth wicket with Raina.

csk decide bat first

On a Ranchi track expected to be slow and low, Chennai Super Kings won the toss and chose to bat. Victory today will confirm Super Kings' place in the playoffs while also all but eliminating Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Super Kings made two changes to their batting. Faf du Plessis, who has a niggle, was replaced with David Hussey, who was an IPL commentator till a week ago, and Vijay Shankar's place was taken by the experienced Mithun Manhas.
Royal Challengers, who also wanted to bat first, made one change, bringing in fast bowler Varun Aaron for batsman Vijay Zol. That leaves allrounder Sachin Rana at No. 6 and Mitchell Starc at No. 7, followed by a lengthy tail.

Johnson, Haddin valued at top base price for IPL auction

Freshly-crowned Ashes heroes Mitchell Johnson, Brad Haddin and Steven Smith are part of a group of 31 players that has attracted the highest base price of Rs 20 million (US$ 320,000 approx.) for the IPL player auction to be to be held in Bangalore on February 12 and 13. They are part of the 232-strong auction list of capped players from ten countries, which was finalised by the IPL last week and distributed to the eight franchises.
There are 46 Indians on the list including prominent players like Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Dinesh Karthik, Pragyan Ojha and Yusuf Pathan, all of whom have been listed at the top base price of Rs 20 million. Irfan Pathan, the allrounder, is not in the top bracket but has been valued at Rs 15 million.
One notable absentee is fast bowler Varun Aaron, who is back with the national team after a lengthy injury lay-off. It was initially thought that he had skipped the IPL, but it has emerged that he is still getting his paperwork in place.*
Among the overseas players, some of the notable names missing are the Sri Lanka pair of Kumar Sangakkara and Dinesh Chandimal, Australia's Michael Clarke and Mitchell Marsh, England's Stuart Broad, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler, and West Indies fast bowler Kemar Roach.
With Sri Lanka touring Ireland and England this summer players like Sangakkara - who also has a young family - are likely to have decided to cool their heels before the UK trip. However Sangakkara's team-mates Mahela Jayawardene and Angelo Mathews have decided to enter the auction even if they are bound to miss the business end of the IPL.
Among the first-timers, New Zealand allrounder Corey Anderson tops the list and could likely be one of the most sought-after players. Anderson hit the fastest ODI century, in 36 balls, against West Indies. The 23-year-old, who is now the fastest to register both a century and a five-for in an ODI career, has a base price of Rs 10 million. Anderson has been the best allrounder in the ongoing one-day series against India, which New Zealand have won.Alex Hales, currently the No. 1-ranked batsman in Twenty20 internationals, is also searching for a top-bracket deal after that became a clause in the agreement he made with his county Nottinghamshire to be allowed into the auction. Both Hales and Samit Patel will only be allowed to participate should they secure the most lucrative contracts available.
The biggest England name in the list is Kevin Pietersen who is a free agent again after Delhi Daredevils opted not to retain any players. Although England's central contracts have clauses to allow players a period at the IPL - a period that has been extended under the new deals - Pietersen's IPL participation could well by a thorny issue again if there has been a breakdown in the relationship between him and England's team director Andy Flower as has been suggested.
As expected, Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes have not put their names forward for this year's tournament even though both would have gathered significant interest. After the 5-0 Ashes whitewash there is a desire in English cricket for the rejuvenation of the Test side to be made a priority and both Broad and Stokes, who impressed in the Ashes, will be central to that. However, Ian Bell, who does not play T20 for England, has put his name forward.
Perhaps a little more surprising is the absence of Jos Buttler, England's explosive limited-overs wicketkeeper, who has a strong reputation in Twenty20. However, not joining the IPL means he will have an extended run of four-day County Championship cricket at the start of the English season to push his claims to be England's Test keeper - a role that is now far more fluid following Matt Prior's omission during the Ashes.
Once again Pakistan players will be not part of the auction although two Pakistan-born players - Azhar Mahmood (England) and Fawad Ahmad (Australia) - have been listed.
Australian chinaman bowler Brad Hogg, at 43, will be the oldest capped player in the auction and is listed at reserve price of Rs 15 million. Hogg was part of Rajasthan Royals till IPL 2013, though he played just the one match last season. The other 40-plus capped player is former Sri Lanka offspinner Muttiah Muralitharn (Rs 10 million), who was with Royal Challengers Bangalore last season.
Ryan ten Doeschate, who was with Kolkata Knight Riders till last year, is the solitary player form the Associates (Netherlands) and has a base price of Rs 10 million.
According to the new IPL player regulations, it has been decided that all players will be paid in Indian rupees from this year. Overseas players will be paid in the currency of their choice at the prevailing exchange rate on either the actual date of payment or contract due date, whichever is beneficial to the player.

domestic players will also feature in IPL auction

MUMBAI: The watchdogs are out and operation clean-up is well and truly on to save India's biggest cricketing brand. The underhand dealing which involved unaccounted buying and selling of First Class and List 'A' cricketers in the Indian Premier League (IPL), will now stop. The Governing Council have brought in a new regulation that states all cricketers - international and domestic - will have to be bought through the annual player auction only. In the case of overseas cricketers, franchises recommend the names of players they wish to see in the auction list. Now, an identical process will be followed for the domestic cricketers too. For instance, a First Class or List 'A' cricketer from Mumbai or Maharashtra will only be able to play in the IPL if Mumbai Indians or any other franchise would buy him in the auction. For the player to be included in the auction list, a franchise has to recommend his name to the Governing Council. The recommendation can even come from the player's state association. Under-21 players will now feature in the auction list only if they have played First Class or List 'A' cricket. Franchises have been allowed a revised, increased salary cap of Rs 60 crore for 2014 to buy players in the auction. With that amount they can buy a minimum of 16 cricketers and a maximum of 27. No team will be allowed to spend more than this amount or buy players because all the buying will have to be done in the auction. This regulation will ensure that franchises do not indulge in paying cricketers unaccounted money outside of the auction process - something that was seemingly rampant in previous seasons. The salary cap of Rs 60 crore per franchise will see an increase of 5% each year and players will have to be signed on a one-year contract to be renewed each year for three years. Each franchise can now buy only nine overseas players as opposed to the earlier figure of 10, and only four - as per the original rule - will be allowed to play in a match. Now, with auction being the sole window to buy cricketers, there can be greater scrutiny. Once the Governing Council ratifies this rule next week, franchises can start scouting names - apart from those they may want to retain - to be included in the auction list and recommend them to the BCCI. The BCCI, like it had done in the case of overseas players, will work on a tripartite agreement between itself, the player and eventually the franchise that buys him. The move will ensure that cricketers give due importance to First Class or List 'A' cricket and not get lured by the riches that the IPL has to offer. In turn, franchises will have to work on a strict budget as they plan their new team.
